"Shattered Glass" Review :

Episode 1 of Moon Knight begins with a strange, shady man shattering a glass inside a cloak. Those pieces of glass are emptied into his shoes, which he wears and proceeds to walk around the room. This scene eventually paves the way for us to introduce our protagonist, Steven. a former U.S. Marine, Steven lives alone and chains himself to bed every night, with the floor full of sand.

Her only company comes from a one-fin goldfish named Gus and she works at the British History Museum. He wants to be a tour guide but his constant lethargy and erratic behavior doesn't help him. He is an outsider, but he knows a lot about Egypt (which will be important later) but is largely overlooked in his role.

Something is happening to Steven, and that's especially evident when he suddenly wakes up in the middle of a large field. A strange voice tells him to "take control of Mark" as he is soon shot by strange men.

In a nearby town, a long-haired man with glass in his shoes passes by. It is Arthur, the spiritual leader of his kind, and he greets the villagers, tells the gathered crowd that he intends to make this place as paradise as possible... and then murders a woman. .

Arthur keeps his eyes on Steven and demands that he hand over the strange Egyptian Scarab in his possession. Surrounded by guards, there is another blackout, the moment Mark Spector takes control.

Next thing you know, a car chase ensues, as Steven takes a cupcake van and drives down the street away from a whole bunch of black vans chasing him.

There's a really clever scene between Steven blacking out and sending these soldiers, which eventually leads Steven to wake up back in his apartment... two days later. Gus now has two wings for some reason and his date with Dylan is completely screwed, considering it was two days ago.

Steven notices scratches on the living room floor, leaving the phone in a hidden area. Several missed calls from someone named Layla (and one from Duchamp) indicate that he is living a double life.

A strange resonant voice bleeds as Mark — Steven's alter-ego type — bleeds. He warns Steven to stop watching but it's no good. Steven is seeing the gods of Egypt everywhere and these blackouts keep getting worse. Not only that, Arthur is also on the hunt.

Arthur is aware of Steven's plight, seemingly aware of the voices inside his head. As he looks deep into Steven's eyes and puts the familiar hammer between his forearms, Arthur remarks that "there's chaos in you."

Arthur waits until hours later, where a strange jackal comes to life and begins to chase Steven, snoring and growling. Arthur wants the scarab but as Steven locks himself in the bathroom, it seems there is no way out. Though through his reflection, Mark urges Steven to take control of him. And with the jackal beating against the metal, Steven does exactly that, turning into a Moon Knight.

Doing so, we get our first look at Moon Knight, complete with glowing white eyes and a white robe.

Episode Review :

Moon Knight

      Moon Knight

So Marvel continues to deliver more superhero shows and this time it falls on Moon Knight, a character in Egyptian culture and a lot of hallmarks for the genre. Oscar Isaac is great in this role and he helps propel the series forward, with a solid opening chapter that sets things up well for the season ahead.

Blackout moments are a good way to introduce Mark's alter-ego and one of the show's more creative elements, to show the result of bloody action with slick edits.

Beyond that, it's pretty standard superhero fare, with the tone being the biggest deterrent ever. There's a lot of comedy and typical Marvel hallmarks, which feel in direct contrast to the moments involving blood and crunching in glass shoes.

It's not going to entertain fans looking for another Punisher or Daredevil, but when it comes to Marvel, they're bound to enjoy Moon Knight. For everyone else though, we'll have to wait and see what the coming chapters have in store for us.
